Dr Graeme Wilson

Research Fellow

Graeme is a Research Fellow at Reid School of Music, ECA, University of Edinburgh. He joined the School of Music in 2014 to develop research on group improvisation across the arts, and to implement the Scottish Music and Health Network. His research interests are in jazz and improvised music, identities, discourse and qualitative methodologies.

Professor Raymond MacDonald

Principal Investigator

Professor Raymond MacDonald joined the Reid School of Music at the ECA, University of Edinburgh in 2012 having worked at Glasgow Caledonian University previously. His ongoing research focuses on issues relating to improvisation, psychology of music, music health and wellbeing, musical identities and music education. His work includes studying the processes and outcomes of music participation and music listening.

Una MacGlone

Research Fellow

Una MacGlone is a Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh. She is in the final stages of completing a PhD which is an Action Research investigation into approaches to and methods of delivering free improvisation workshops to preschool children. She lectures on free improvisation and music psychology courses at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and is co-editor of a new anthology: Expanding the Space for Improvisation Pedagogy (forthcoming, published by Routledge).

Joy Vamvakari

Research Assistant

Joy Vamvakari is a doctoral researcher at the University of Edinburgh, in the Institute for Music in Human and Social Development. Her research explores the relationship between music listening, and health and wellbeing, aiming to gain insight into how music listening can enhance wellbeing. Her research interests focus on accessibility of the Arts and Music, social equality, and the enhancement of quality of life.

It always puts a smile on my face, and seeing other people enjoy themselves, playing and singing is just the best. Apart from music, which is my passion in life, you can find me up a hill, by the sea, at the cinema or at Rugby match.
